Nairobi, December 15 Mogadishu news: The Somali government announced on the evening of the 14th that the Somali government decided to sever diplomatic relations with Kenya because of Kenya’s “infringing on its sovereignty and interference in its internal affairs”.
Somali Information Minister Osman Dube announced the above decision in a televised speech on the 14th.
He said that Somalia will immediately recall diplomatic personnel from Kenya and require Kenyan diplomatic personnel in Somalia to leave the country within seven days.
The Kenyan government has not yet responded to the decision to sever diplomatic relations in Somalia.
On November 29, the Somali government accused Kenya of interfering in its elections, recalled the ambassador to Kenya, and expelled the Kenyan ambassador to Somalia.
On December 14, Kenyatta met with Abdi, the leader of Somaliland’s local government, in Nairobi, the capital.
In the 1990s, Somaliland declared its independence from Somalia, but it has not been recognized by the international community.
The Somali government believes that Somaliland is an integral part of its territory.
