The 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, headquartered in Paris, France, on the 14th, has called for cooperation to jointly address the common challenges facing human society.
OECD Engel Guria, French President Macron and Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez co-chaired the commemorative ceremony of the day.
“At a time when the world is facing COVID-19, climate change and other serious crises, it is more important than ever to cooperate to respond,” UN Secretary-General Guterres said in a video sent to the commemoration.
As an important rule-maker, data and analysis provider, OECD plays an important role in achieving the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, achieving the Paris Agreement and other developments in promoting well-being.
OECD Secretary-General Engel Guria said that although the world has changed greatly over the past 60 years and the OECD has changed with it, the goal of helping governments design and implement better policies to make people live better has remained unchanged.
Guria stressed that in the current global face of the COVID-19 epidemic, the OECD will continue to help countries jointly meet the challenges ahead.
In his speech, Spanish Prime Minister Sánchez, the rotating chairman of the OECD Ministerial Conference, said that the world was facing the worst health, economic and social crisis since the Second World War.
The crisis should be an opportunity and turning point to strengthen and improve multilateralism.
Countries need to work together to find effective global solutions to get rid of the epidemic, achieve economic recovery, address the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, rising inequality, wealth concentration and digitization.
Sanchez said that only through collective action by all parties can these problems be solved and a more flexible and inclusive, greener economy and society can be built.
