According to AFP in Jakarta, Indonesian police arrested a senior leader of the terrorist organization Islam Group
believing that he was suspected of being involved in the 2002 Bali bombing.
According to the report, police spokesman Argo Yuvorno said that the suspect’s name is
Zulkanan, 57 years old, who has been at large for nearly 18 years, was arrested on Sumatra on December 10 local time.
According to reports, Zurkanan is the only Indonesian who has been included in the “justice bounty” project in the United States, with a reward of up to $5 million.
An Indonesian police spokesman said that Zurkanan was “under interrogation” and anti-terrorism investigators were searching his residence.
According to the report, the Bali bombing in 2002 killed 202 people, and Zurkanan has since been one of the most wanted criminals in Indonesia.
The spokesman said that at the time of the Bali attack, Zurkanan happened to be the military commander of the “Islamic Group”.
It is believed that he was also suspected of participating in the suicide bombing of the Marriott Hotel in Jakarta in 2003, which killed 12 people.
