December 10th local time, Israel and Morocco reached an agreement to normalize their relations. This is the fourth Arab country to normalize relations with Israel in the past four months, after the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan.
US President Trump posted on social media: “Our two great friends Israel and the Kingdom of Morocco have agreed to establish comprehensive diplomatic relations, which is a major breakthrough in peace in the Middle East!” Trump reportedly agreed to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara as part of the agreement.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu thanked “President Trump for his extraordinary efforts for peace between Israel and the Middle East.” Netanyahu praised King Mohammed VI of Morocco and said that Moroccan Jews were “bridges” and that there would be “very warm peace” between Israel and Morocco.
After hearing the news, Palestine strongly attacked the agreement, saying that some Arab countries abandoned their long-standing ideals and frustrated the Palestinian cause of peace.
