December 10th, local time, according to the Austrian National Radio and Television Station, continuous snow has caused power outages for tens of thousands of families in Austria’s states such as Styria, Könten and Tyrol. At present, about 11,000 families in Styria alone have suffered power outages.
Since the 9th, more than 100 substations in the Austrian state of Styria have reported failures, and by the morning of the 10th, about 11,000 households in the state had power outages.
Urs Harnik, spokesman for the State Power Company of Styria, said that continuous snow caused trees to collapse, and broken branches of trees were the main reason for transmission line failure. He reminded people not to get close to fallen trees and where the wires hang.
He said that the power company has concentrated all its efforts and will restore power supply as soon as possible, but it will take about a day for the state’s power supply system to fully recover.
According to the report, 3,200 households and 1,500 households in Kernten and Tyrol, respectively, have suffered power outages, mainly due to the failure of power lines caused by the collapse of trees and broken branches of trees.
Relevant emergency repair work is in progress. In addition, due to weather, about 870 firefighters have been deployed in Styria, and firefighters in the cantons are mainly responsible for emergency tasks, such as heavy snow rescue and organizing population evacuation.
It is reported that due to the danger of avalanche, some primary and secondary schools in the country have been closed, and many roads will be closed until this weekend. According to local meteorological authorities, snow will continue in many Austrian states that day.
Snow will fluctuate between valleys and 700 meters above sea level, and then the snow will gradually weaken until it subsides.
