According to Reuters, the U.S. Treasury Department said on the 8th that the United States has blacklisted six companies and four ships on charges of “illegally helping North Korea export coal”.
Among the six enterprises, several companies headquartered in mainland China and Hong Kong.
According to information released by the U.S. Treasury Department, the shipping companies under sanctions are Weihai Huijiang Trade Ltd and Always Smooth Ltd. headquartered in mainland China.
Good Siblings Ltd, the latter two of which are also registered in the UK. The other three are Silver Bridge Shipping Co-HKG, headquartered in Hong Kong, China, Daijin Trading in South Korea and Thinh Cuong in Vietnam.
The four blacklisted ships are Asia Bridge, Lucky Star, Calm Bridge and Star 18, which are accused of “loading coal directly from North Korean ports and transporting North Korean cargo throughout the region”.
Among them, Asia Bridge is recognized as having an interest in Weihai Huijiang Trading Co., Ltd. and Good Brothers Co., Ltd., Lucky Star is recognized as having an interest in Weihai Huijiang Trading Co., Ltd. and Yongshun Co., Ltd., and Calm Bridge is recognized as Silver Bridge Shipping has Limited to the ships owned and controlled by the company, Star 18 is believed to have an interest in the Thinh Cuong Company of Vietnam.
As a sanctions measure, the assets of blacklisted enterprises in the United States and assets controlled and owned by Americans will be frozen and reported to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the U.S. Treasury Department pointed out.
On December 2, in response to the accusations of the United States of violating China’s sanctions obligations to North Korea, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunmi said at a regular press conference that China has repeatedly expounded China’s position on the Security Council resolution related to North Korea.
The goal of the relevant North Korean-related resolutions of the Security Council is to achieve the denuclearization of the peninsula and maintain peace and stability on the peninsula. Sanctions are means to serve the target.
Under the current situation, all parties should devote more energy to promoting the political settlement process of the Peninsula issue and pay more attention to the negative impact of sanctions on the humane people’s livelihood of North Korea.
The COVID-19 epidemic continues to spread, and we once again call on the Security Council to start the discussion of the “reversible clause” of the resolution as soon as possible, make necessary adjustments to the sanctions measures, especially in the field of people’s livelihood, and create conditions for a political solution to the peninsula issue.
As a permanent member of the Security Council and a responsible power, China has always earnestly implemented Security Council resolutions and fulfilled its international obligations. We actively promote the political settlement of the Peninsula issue.
Even under the epidemic, China’s efforts have not slackened. On the contrary, the United States has allowed the domestic epidemic to remain high.
Instead, it spends so much time and energy on reconnaissance, surveillance, intelligence spying, wantonly slandering other countries for not implementing the resolution, and offering rewards. We would like to ask the United States, what have you done to implement the political provisions of the resolution? What have you done to safeguard the human rights and people’s livelihood in North Korea?
