December 9th – OnĀ November 30th, a Japanese cargo ship from China was hit by a storm in the waters of Hawaii, the United States, losing a large number of containers.
After sailing back to Kobe Port on December 8, the cargo ship carried out an inventory and confirmed the loss of 1,816 containers, with an estimated loss of more than $50 million.
According to a report by Japan’s Kobe News on the 8th, the cargo ship was named “OneApus”. The operating company said that the cargo ship was originally scheduled to sail from China to California
but it was hit by a storm in the waters of Hawaii, causing containers to collapse and the hull was injured. Of the containers lost, 64 contained dangerous goods such as fireworks and batteries.
Video shows that some of the containers are tilted like collapsed building blocks.
The containers on the edges seem to slide into the sea at any time. Some have been squeezed and deformed, and the internal cargo is scattered outside.
After the accident, the captain ordered to return to Japan.
The cargo ship is currently undergoing safety inspection and emergency treatment in Kobe Port.
The specific cause of the accident is under investigation. The accident did not cause casualties.
