President-elect Biden announced the nomination for his public health team at a briefing in Wilmington, Delaware, and introduced his three major goals for responding to the coronavirus within 100 days after taking office next year.
California Attorney General Javier Becera named Secretary of Health and Human Services; Harvard Medical School professor Roshell Valensky named director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention;
And Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was named Biden Chief, according to the report said.
Medical consultant; former director of public health, Vivec Murti, was nominated to serve again in the position.
In addition, Biden announced three goals he would achieve within 100 days of taking office on the same day. “Wearing a mask, getting a coronavirus vaccine and opening schools are the three main goals of my first 100 days [in office],” Biden said at the briefing, according to NBC.
Biden highlights coordination needed to achieve 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine, Reuters said. Biden also said that getting children back to school during the first 100 days of his inauguration would be a priority for the whole country. In addition, Biden also mentioned the requirement to wear a mask.
“In 100 days, we can change the course of disease and make life in the United States (people) better,” Biden said. “No matter what your political position or opinion is, these 100 days have to wear a mask.”
Reuters said that the coronavirus epidemic has killed more than 283,000 Americans and caused millions of people to lose their jobs.
