Beijing, December 8 In response to the recent approval of the sale of arms to Taiwan by the U.S. State Council, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunwei said on the 8th that China urged the United States to immediately withdraw the arms sales plan to Taiwan, so as not to cause further damage to Sino-US relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
Hua Chunyu said at the regular press conference on the same day that China’s position on the issue of U.S. arms sales to Taiwan is consistent and clear. The sale of weapons by the United States to the Taiwan region seriously violates the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-US joint communiqués, especially the August 17 communiqués, grossly interferes in China’s internal affairs, seriously harms China’s sovereignty and security interests, sends the wrong signal to the separatist forces of “Taiwan independence”, and seriously damages Sino-US relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
China firmly opposes this.
Hua Chunyu said that China urged the United States to abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiqués, stop the sale of Taiwan arms and the military ties between the United States and Taiwan, and immediately cancel the relevant arms sales plan to Taiwan, so as not to cause further damage to Sino-US relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
China will continue to respond properly and necessaryly in accordance with the development of the situation.
