5th December Trump, who has been in the White House for more than a month, appeared in public eye for the first time to attend the Georgia Senate election campaign. He refused to admit defeat, claiming on Twitter that he was “just starting to fight” and asked for a list of Republican “traitors”.
The Washington Post reported on the same day that 25 Republicans had congratulated Biden on winning the election. Trump responded on Twitter:
“25 people, wow! I’m surprised that there are so many (traitors). We have just started fighting. Please send me a list of 25 RINOs (Observer’s.com Note: ‘Republicans with no names’ abbreviation, with a pejorative meaning). I hardly read fake news from The Washington Post.
Before and after the tweet was released, Trump was busy facing off with Republican Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia. He claimed that if the other party had not blocked the counting of votes, he would have won Georgia “easily and quickly”. If we win Georgia, everything will go well.
“Why are these two ‘Republicans’ (Kanpop Georgia Secretary of State) saying no…what are they hiding?” Trump questioned. Kemp countered that in order to restore confidence in the election process, he had asked for an audit of ballot signatures three times.
At this point, Trump has not hinted at what he would do to these “anti-water” Republican lawmakers. The Washington Post also did not respond to the request to publish the list.
Since Trump released what he called the “most important” speech on the 2nd, still accusing the election of “fraud” without evidence, the Washington Post has conducted a questionnaire on 249 Republican members of both houses of Congress. The question is as follows: Who do you think the winner of the election and whether you support Trump’s continued declaration of victory? The statement, and if Biden wins a majority of electoral votes, you will admit that Biden is “lawfully elected president”.
Anonymous questionnaire feedback is continuously updated. As of 5 p.m. local time on the 5th, 27 Republican lawmakers have admitted Biden’s victory, two insist that Trump won, and the remaining 220 (88%) have not answered.
Nearly half of these 27 (12) are senators; 6 of the 15 representatives are about to retire this month, and two are in the district that Biden took without any suspense.
Nine people opposed and eight opposed Trump’s insistence that he “winned” and “the election results were stolen”; 32 people said they would recognize the election of the electoral college’s vote for Biden, and two people opposed it. The rest has not been answered.
The article commented that it shows that the vast majority of Republicans are still afraid of Trump’s influence and dare not publicly oppose it. However, few lawmakers willing to “support” Trump and refuse to accept Biden’s election are also very small (8 people), accounting for only 3% of the total.
At present, all key battlefield states have completed ticket checking, and the results have not changed decisively. The December 14th election vote will confirm Biden’s victory without surprise. Trump promised to accept the vote and leave the White House at that time, but then changed his mind.
Theoretically, he still has a last chance to “turn the tables”. Rep. Mo Brooks, a Republican from Alaska, announced that he would challenge the election results by verifying the Electoral College voting stage next January 6 in Congress.
Brooks described this year as having “the worst election results stolen in American history”, saying that the Trump camp has a better chance of challenging the election results in Congress than in the courts, because the courts “can’t count how many illegal votes have been taken”.
At present, at least 27 of the 44 lawsuits involving election fraud initiated by the Trump Law Firm have been rejected or dismissed, and no court has found election fraud.
On January 6, members of both houses of Congress will certify the Electoral College to vote and officially announce the general election results. During this period, lawmakers may initiate written objections to challenge the votes of one or more states. However, suspending the certification process requires at least one representative and one senator to object.
The Capitol Hill revealed that no senator has responded to Brooks’ call. Several Republican senators have expressed their support for this “unhopeful attempt”.
Texas Senator John Corbin said, “No one likes to admit defeat, but we must respect the judgment of the American people. I don’t support or recognize it, especially don’t like this kind of show-out behavior.”
A group of potential competitors in the 2024 election in the Republican Party, such as Senators Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, refused to respond, prevaricate or claim that they did not understand the procedure.
Brooks said that he had not found a senator’s “partner” until the 3rd, and he admitted that his practice was “largely symbolic”.
