WHO: It is hoped that the “COVID-19 vaccine implementation plan” can distribute 500 million doses of vaccine in the first quarter of next year.
4th December, the WHO held a regular press conference on COVID-19. WHO Director-General Tedros said that 189 countries and economies have now joined the “COVID-19 Vaccine Implementation Plan”, which has obtained a total of 700 million doses of three COVID-19 vaccines and will ensure that at least 2 billion doses of safe and effective vaccines worldwide are available next year.
In the first phase of the vaccine launch, health and community care workers will be covered first. As production increases, it will cover 20% of the population of participating countries and economies, ensuring coverage of more high-risk people.
Sumia Swaminathan, the chief scientist of WHO, said that she hoped that 500 million doses of vaccine could be distributed in the first quarter of next year’s “COVID-19 vaccine implementation plan”, and it is expected that vaccine production and distribution speed will increase in the second quarter of next year.
