Sana’a, December 3 Aden news: Yemeni government military officials said on the 3rd that Houthi armed forces shelled a factory in the Yemeni Red Sea city of Hodeida on the same day, killing at least nine people.
An official of the Yemeni government army who declined to be named told Xinhua News Agency that the Houthis shelled a factory in southern part of Hodeida that day, causing heavy casualties.
More than 21 injured people were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, and the death toll could rise, local health authorities said. Witnesses said that after the shelling of the factory, a violent explosion occurred and a fire was ignited.
Hodida is an important port city in Yemen, and a large amount of humanitarian aid needs to enter Yemen from this port. Houthis and Yemeni government forces fought fiercely here. At present, most of Hodeida is still under the control of Houthis, and government forces control parts of the east and south.
In September 2014, Houthi forces in Yemen seized the capital Sana’a and later occupied southern Yemen. In March 2015, Saudi Arabia and other countries launched a military operation code-named “Decisive Storm” against the Houthis.
In December 2018, under the mediation of the United Nations, the Yemeni government and the Houthi reached an agreement on important issues such as the Hodeda ceasefire and the exchange of prisoners of war, but soon the two sides accused each other of violating the ceasefire agreement.
