December 2nd, the Portuguese Ministry of Health issued a statement confirming that its Director-General Graça Freitas was diagnosed with COVID-19
It is reported that Portuguese Health Minister Marta Temido and two other officials also tested for the novel coronavirus on the 1st, and the results were negative.
The Portuguese Ministry of Health originally planned to hold a regular meeting on the 2nd to assess the current coronavirus epidemic, but due to the diagnosis of Director-General Freitas, it was decided to cancel the meeting on that day.
The statement also revealed that Freitas has mild symptoms of COVID-19 and is being quarantined for treatment.
Freitas, 63 years old, is a Portuguese public health expert and has been the Director-General of the Portuguese Ministry of Health since 2018.
She is also a member of the European Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization’s Immunization Program Sustainability Management Committee.
