December 2 According to a report by South Korea’s Central Daily, on the 1st local time, the National Assembly of South Korea passed an amendment to the Military Service Law, allowing outstanding contributors in the field of mass culture and art to postpone their enlistment.
It is reported that on the afternoon of the 1st local time, South Korea’s ruling and opposition parties held a formal meeting. The 268 parliamentarians present at the meeting passed part of the amendment to the Military Service Law by 253 people in favor, 2 against and 13 abstentions.
The South Korean government plans to issue a presidential decree stipulating that popular cultural and artistic personnel who have received cultural medals and recognition and are recommended by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism can postpone the age of enlistment to 30.
The amendment passed on the same day also stipulates that the medical examination of enlistment can be replaced by the examination of enlistment decisions implemented by the local military director before enlistment.
