November 28th – On the 27th local time, Muhsin Fakrizad, a senior Iranian nuclear scientist, was attacked near the capital Tehran and died after unsuccessful rescue.
According to Reuters, Iran said in a letter to United Nations Secretary-General Guterres and the United Nations Security Council on the same day that there were “strong signs that Israel is responsible for the assassination of an Iranian scientist” and that Iran reserves the right to self-defence.
It is reported that the Iranian United Nations envoy also pointed out in his letter that “we warn the United States and Israel of any adventurous measures against our country” and said that Iran reserves the right to take all necessary measures to protect the interests of the people and the country.
After the attack, Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif said that Israel may have participated in the killing of Fakrizad, and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office has not commented on the attack.
Some U.S. officials told CNN that the United States is paying close attention to the matter, but is unwilling to talk about the matter publicly to avoid further exacerbating the already considerable tension.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged all parties to exercise restraint and avoid any action that could lead to an escalation of tension in the region on the 27th local time.
