92 officials and staff of Yangon Municipal Government of Myanmar diagnosed with COVID-19

December 8th, local time, a total of 92 people, mayor of Yangon, Wu Mao Maosuo, his secretary, driver and other municipal government officials and staff were diagnosed with COVID-19, and another 165 people were quarantined.

According to Vice Mayor Wu Solin, the Yangon Municipal Government is currently disinfecting and cleaning up in accordance with the epidemic prevention requirements of the Ministry of Health. It is understood that Mayor Wu Maomaoso, 69 years old, once visited major markets in Yangon to inspect the epidemic prevention work, and then he was diagnosed with physical discomfort.

The Yangon Municipal Government has nearly 1900 officials and staff, and the current number of confirmed and quarantined personnel does not affect the normal operation of the municipal government for the time being.

According to Myanmar’s Ministry of Health and Sports, as of the evening of December 8, a total of 101,739 cases of COVID-19 and 2,151 deaths had been confirmed in Myanmar.

Of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Myanmar, 70% are from Yangon, with a total of 72,029 cases; among the deaths, 92.7% are from Yangon.
