Tokyo, November 16th On the 16th local time, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga held talks with IOC President Bach at the Prime Minister’s residence regarding the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics to 2021. Exchange opinions on issues.

The two sides reached an agreement on continuing to cooperate closely in the direction of successfully hosting the Olympics. Yoshihide Suga expressed his determination to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games next summer to prove that mankind has defeated Coronavirus and show the world the results of reconstruction after the Great East Japan Earthquake. 

After the meeting, Yoshihide Suga stated to the media that Japan is discussing various related issues in the presence of live audiences and briefed Chairman Bach on this. At the same time, the two sides also exchanged views on Olympic-related pandemic prevention measures.

In an interview with the media after the meeting, Bach said that during the meeting, both sides expressed their strong determination and confidence in successfully hosting the Tokyo Olympics. 

Bach also expressed his firm belief that the audience can participate in the Tokyo Olympics next year. To this end, not only Japan, but the International Olympic Committee must also make corresponding efforts.

Bach arrived in Tokyo on the 15th local time and will hold talks with Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, Chairman of the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee Yoshiro Mori and others. In addition, Bach will also visit facilities such as the Olympic Stadium and Olympic Village.

IOC President Bach held talks with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on the morning of the 16th. The two sides agreed that the Tokyo Olympics next year will be held as scheduled.

Before the meeting between Bach and Yoshihide Suga, they wore masks for a group photo. They touched their elbows instead of shaking hands. After the meeting, Bach told reporters that he believes that the Tokyo Olympics will not be held behind closed doors, saying: “We have gathered a large toolbox with all the pandemic prevention measures we can imagine.”

He also said: “Next year, we will take out the appropriate tools from the toolbox to ensure a safe environment for all Olympic participants… We will be very, very confident that spectators will sit on the Olympic venue next year.”

Bach also once again emphasized the argument he has repeatedly repeated since the pandemic: “We will unite and let the Olympic Games and the Olympic flame become the light at the end of the pandemic tunnel.”

Yoshihide Suga once again emphasized the Japanese government’s “determination” to host the Olympics, and said that the hosting of the Olympics will be a sign of mankind’s victory over the virus.

Bach arrived in Japan by special plane the previous afternoon to start his visit. On the same day, he will also meet with former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike.

He will also have talks with Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee Chairman Yoshiro Mori and attend the press conference later. .
