February 12th local time, the WHO held a regular press conference on COVID-19.

WHO Director-General Tedros said that the number of new confirmed cases worldwide has declined for four consecutive weeks, and the number of new deaths has also declined for two consecutive weeks, which should be due to the stricter implementation of public health measures by countries.

While it’s encouraging, complacency is as dangerous as the virus itself, and now is not the time for any country to relax its measures or any individual to relax its vigilance, Tedros stressed.

In addition to traditional public health measures, expanding vaccine production and the speed at which vaccines are rolled out in all countries will determine when we can control the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tedros also called for coronavirus vaccination for health workers and seniors in all countries during the first 100 days of this year.
