On the 1st local time, the WHO released a weekly epidemiological report on COVID-19. Last week, there were 3935,330 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide, a slight decrease from the previous week.
However, the number of new deaths continues to increase to 69,916. Globally, last week, the Americas region had the largest number of new cases, and the number of new cases in Europe continued to decline, but last week, about half of the new deaths worldwide came from the European region.
After four months of continuous growth, the number of new confirmed cases and deaths in the Eastern Mediterranean region decreased last week. The increase in new cases in Africa and Southeast Asia last week was relatively small, and the increase in new cases in the western Pacific region was relatively large last week.
The five countries that reported the most cases last week were the United States, India, Brazil, Italy and Russia, among which the United States reported more than 1.1 million confirmed cases, an increase of 0.3% from the previous week.
