December 7th – As the new U.S. government is about to take office, the whereabouts of the current Secretary of State Pompeo have attracted the attention of the U.S. media. According to the Wall Street Journal on the 6th, Pompeo will return to his hometown of Kansas, and his supporters analyzed that he is likely to start his domestic political career and run for office.
According to reports, during the last few weeks of the Trump administration, Pompeo said he wanted to focus on his immediate work and did not consider the future, but did not rule out the possibility of future election for office.
However, in an interview with his office at the State Department, he and his wife will return to Kansas at some point. Previously, as a congressman, Pompeo represented the fourth district of the state for six years. It is understood that the remaining funds raised by Pompeo during his tenure as a member of parliament can still be activated and continued to be used.
Meanwhile, Pompeo’s supporters and local Republicans said that he could run for governor, senator and even the presidency. According to U.S. media, Pompeo was once a favored senator for the Republican Party.
He discussed the possibility with party members during his tenure as Secretary of State, which was also opposed and investigated by Democrats. “Pompeo is well positioned to run for governor of the state, even president,” said Mark Karls, a member of the Kansas Republican Committee.
The Wall Street Journal pointed out that Trump has expressed his willingness to participate in the 2024 presidential election, which is a challenge for other potential Republican candidates, including Pompeo.
U.S. media said that if Pompeo competes for the party nomination in 2024, he will also face Nikki Haley, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, and senior senators from all states.
