Wang Yi talks about the five-point consensus reached between China and Indonesia

by YCPress

On January 13, 2021 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with reporters with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno in Jakarta.

Wang Yi said that in 2021, China will start a new journey of building a modern socialist country in an all-round way, and Indonesia is also working hard to achieve leapfrogging development. As the representative of large developing countries and emerging economies, China and Indonesia have a wide range of common interests.

Mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries and moving forward together are of strategic significance and have world impact. The purpose of this trip to Indonesia is to fully implement the consensus of the two heads of state, consolidate the strategic mutual trust between the two countries, closely follow the two main lines of unity, anti-epidemic and development cooperation, and promote the greater development of China-Indonal comprehensive strategic partnership. I reached a series of new consensuses with Foreign Minister Retno:

First, we should work together to win the protracted war against the epidemic. On the basis of the successful phase III clinical trial cooperation of vaccines, China is willing to continue to promote vaccine research and development, procurement and production cooperation, support Indonesia to build a regional vaccine production center, and promote the construction of a human health community.

Second, we should work together to write a new chapter of development. China is willing to tap the market advantages and domestic demand potential of the two countries, expand Indonesia’s exports to China, increase Chinese investment in Indonesia, and promote the healthy and balanced development of bilateral trade.

Deeply connect the Belt and Road Initiative and the concept of Global Ocean Fulcrum, and promote substantial progress in major projects such as Yawan High-Speed Railway, Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor and “Two Parks of the Two Countries”. The two sides should also take scientific and technological innovation as the driving force, accelerate the creation of new growth poles in 5G, artificial intelligence, big data and other fields, and jointly improve industrial competitiveness.

Third, we should join hands to play the song of regional cooperation and development. Since last year, East Asian regional cooperation has once again played its crisis-driven characteristics, going against the trend and achieving remarkable results. East Asia has become a global anti-epidemic demonstration zone and a leader in economic recovery.

We should take the opportunity of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN dialogue relations this year to promote the quality and upgrading of bilateral relations and stand to a new historical height. At the same time, jointly promote the entry into force of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement as soon as possible to release the dividends of the world’s largest free trade zone.

IV. We should give full play to the role of the two major coastal states in the South China Sea, work with other ASEAN countries to fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, actively and steadily promote the consultation on the “Code of Conduct in the South China Sea”, create effective and substantive regional rules in accordance with international law, and jointly maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea.

I also had in-depth communication with Foreign Minister Tuo on the “ASEAN Indo-Pacific Outlook” advocated by Indonesia, which has improved mutual understanding.

Fifth, we should work together to safeguard and promote multilateralism. The epidemic has taught us that countries are solidarity communities and multilateral mechanisms are more important than ever.

China and Indonesia are also developing countries members of the G20. China is ready to fully support Indonesia to host the G20 summit next year, work together to reform and improve global governance and cooperation, safeguard multilateralism and free trade, and make its due contribution to world peace, stability and development in the post-epidemic era.

Wang Yi said that the people of the two countries who have experienced the hardships of the epidemic will be stronger, and the relationship between China and Indonesia after the tempered by the epidemic will be more tenacious.

The two sides will continue to work closely together to create a better tomorrow for bilateral relations and add confidence and strength to the region and the world!
