United Nations Secretary-General Guterres appointed Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York, as the climate envoy.

February 4th, local time, United Nations Secretary-General Guterres announced the reappointment of former New York Mayor Bloomberg as Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions, with a view to Ahead of the Glasgow Climate Conference in November 2021, carry out stronger and more ambitious climate action.

“Bloomberg will support the work of UN Secretary-General Guterres by expanding and strengthening a coalition of governments, corporations, cities and financial institutions committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050,” the statement said.

As Special Envoy for Climate Ambition and Solutions, Bloomberg’s work will build on the outcomes of the 2019 Climate Action Summit and the 2020 Climate Ambition Summit, responding to Guterres’s call to ensure that all measures taken to respond to COVID-19 are consistent with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

In 2018, Guterres appointed Bloomberg as his Special Envoy for Climate Action.
