January 20th local time, the United Nations expressed deep concern about the humanitarian crisis caused by the escalation of violence in Cape Delgado Province, Mozambique.

“The conflict continues to escalate and the humanitarian situation in Cape Delgadu has deteriorated and is completely dependent on humanitarian assistance,” the United Nations said in a statement.

Senior United Nations officials quoted data from the Mozambican government as saying that armed attacks have forced more than 560,000 people to flee their villages and give up their crops and livelihoods.

The United Nations stressed the urgent need to strengthen the protection of people and provide food, health and nutrition programs for vulnerable children and women.

Urge the Government of Mozambique and the international community to intensify their efforts to stop all forms of violence in the southern African country.
