February 18th local time, the U.S. government said that it would participate in the meeting between P5+1 (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany, that is, the six countries on the Iranian nuclear issue) and Iran at the invitation of the EU high-level representative.

According to the Associated Press on the 18th, U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement that the United States will participate in the P5+1 meeting with Iran at the invitation of the EU High Representative to discuss how to solve the Iranian nuclear issue diplomatic means.

According to the report, the United States has not participated in such meetings since former U.S. President Trump announced his withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement in 2018 and resumed sanctions against Iran.

U.S. Secretary of State Blincoln also said in a videoconference with France, Germany and the United Kingdom on the same day that if Iran can strictly abide by the commitments under the Iran nuclear agreement, the U.S. government will also abide by the commitments.

After the meeting on the same day, the foreign ministers of the four countries issued a joint statement, reiterating their full support for the professional and impartial action of the International Atomic Energy Agency and calling on Iran not to take any further action.

In July 2015, Iran reached a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue with the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, China and Germany. Under the agreement, Iran promised to limit its nuclear program and the international community lifted sanctions against Iran.

In May 2018, the Trump administration unilaterally announced its withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement and imposed new sanctions on Iran.

In May 2019, Iran gradually suspended the implementation of some provisions of the Iran nuclear agreement, but promised that the measures taken were “reversible”.

And Europe has always hoped to act as a mediator between the United States and Iran and upgrade the existing Iran nuclear agreement.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on the 17th local time that Iran can consult with the relevant parties on how to implement the Iran nuclear agreement, and said that if the United States takes substantive steps, Iran will follow up immediately.
