Turkish Parliament approves 18-month extension of Turkish army presence in Libya

Ankara, December 24 The Turkish government issued an official gazette on the 24th, saying that the Turkish Grand National Assembly passed a bill on the 22nd approving the extension of the stationing of Turkish troops in Libya for 18 months.

The bill said that the situation in Libya poses a threat to Turkey and the whole region, and if there is another disturbance, Turkey’s interests in the Mediterranean and North Africa will be affected. Turkey will continue to provide military training and advisory support to Libya in accordance with the memorandum of understanding on security and military cooperation signed with the Libyan Government of National Unity.

On January 2 this year, the Turkish Parliament voted to pass the bill to send troops to Libya. According to the bill, the deployment period of Turkish troops in Libya is one year. On December 12, the Turkish Presidential Palace submitted a bill to the parliament to extend the stationing of Turkish troops in Libya for 18 months.
