Syrian media reported on the 23rd local time that the city of Tlerifat in northern Aleppo Province was shelled by Turkish and its-backed Syrian rebels on the same day, killing three local civilians and injuring seven others.

According to the Syrian State News Agency, Turkey and its support of the Syrian opposition forces fired shells at the city of Tel Rifat from the neighboring areas of Azaz and Afrin, killing three civilians, including one woman and two children, and injuring seven others.

Azaz is located in Aleppo Province in northern Syria, less than 10 kilometers from the Turkish border, and is strategically important.

After the outbreak of the Syrian civil war, rebels and extremist groups seized the city one after another.

After the withdrawal of extremist groups in 2014, Azaz was mainly controlled by Turkey and its supported Syrian opposition forces.

In January 2018, Turkey launched a military operation against the Afrin region, also in Aleppo Province, to cross the border against the Syrian Kurdish armed forces.

Subsequently, the Afrin area was occupied by the Turkish Army and its support Syrian opposition forces in this military operation.

The Turkish army in Azaz and Afrin and its support of the Syrian opposition have fired shells at the city of Tel Rifat many times before, causing civilian casualties.
