Trump voluntarily withdrew from the Screen Actors Guild, and the union responded: Thank you

Reuters reported on February 5 that former U.S. President Trump cancelled his membership in the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).

SAG-AFTRA said on its official website last month that after a special session, the SAG-AFTRA National Board of Directors overwhelmingly determined that member Donald Trump violated the SAG-AFTRA statute. “Possible penalties include condemnation, fines, suspension of membership rights or removal of membership if the Disciplinary Committee finds Trump’s violations,” the statement said. Trump has been a member of SAG-AFTRA since 1989.

It is reported that the reason why the Council took action is that Trump is accused of inciting supporters to storm the Capitol on January 6 and smear and threaten the safety of journalists through false information, many of whom are members of SAG-AFTRA.

The report said Trump wrote in a letter to SAG-AFTRA: “Who cares? I no longer want to be associated with your union. The union responded in a two-word statement, “Thank you.”
