According to a report on January 7, the medical system in the capital of Japan is in crisis as the number of coronavirus cases surges, and 88% of coronavirus-only beds are full.

Although Tokyo hospitals have arranged a total of 3,500 dedicated beds for coronavirus patients, the number of inpatients increased during the end of the year and New Year holiday, reaching 3,090 on January 6.

Health care workers say it’s hard to find hospitals to accommodate the surge of COVID-19 patients, and some employees say their jobs are nearing limits.

According to a report by the Japan Broadcasting Association (NHK) on January 7, as of 20:30 on January 6, there were 6001 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Japan, and it was the first time that more than 6,000 confirmed cases in a single day, a new high.
