January 28th, local time, the Portuguese government announced that the border with Spain would be closed for 15 days from January 29 local time to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the official data of the Portuguese Ministry of Health on January 28th local time, Portugal’s new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and deaths hit a new high since the pandemic, with 16,432 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 303 deaths in a single day.
