NEW YORK, April 20 A prisoner was found dead at the Rex Island Prison in New York City, the third inmate to die in recent weeks.
According to the New York Daily News reported on the 19th, local corrections department officials said that a prison guard found the inmate unresponsive in the prison residential area, and then sought medical help.
The prisoner was eventually pronounced dead around 9 a.m. The cause of death is currently under investigation, and the identity of the prisoner has not been released.
U.S. media believe that the Correctional Services Department failed to train thousands of prison guards in suicide prevention and other necessary life-saving courses. A few weeks ago, two inmates died at Rex Island Prison.
The first was Thomas Caro, 48, who was found with his head stuck in a small metal door on March 2. The second prisoner to die was Javier Velasco, who was found dead in his cell at around 5 a.m. on March 19 with linen around his neck.
Also in March, staff at the Correctional Centre mistakenly sent Christopher Baggs, the prison’s murderer, out of prison because of a court error. Baggs was later captured by New York police.
