December 24th Mutsvanguwa, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services of the Government of Zimbabwe, announced the latest decision on the prevention and control of COVID-19 after the working group meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Epidemic Prevention in Zimbabwe, which will strengthen the control of nucleic acid testing certificates at ports of entry and exit. The details are as follows:

  • All people entering, leaving or transiting Zimbabwe must hold a valid certificate of negative nucleic acid testing from a local or international certified laboratory.
  • Residents who return to Tianjin who fail to produce the above nucleic acid test certificate will be forcibly quarantined.
  • Aliens who do not hold the above nucleic acid test certificate will be refused entry.
  • Without the above nucleic acid test certificate, you shall not leave the country through the border port.
  • The government is formulating measures to solve the congestion at the border and ensure the security of border crossings. These measures include the establishment of checkpoints to check whether travelers have nucleic acid testing certificates. Travelers without nucleic acid test certificates will not be allowed to enter border ports after inspection by law enforcement agencies.
  • In order to avoid possible fraud, nucleic acid testing certificates must come from local, regional and internationally recognized COVID-19 testing laboratories.

As of the 24th local time, Zimbabwe has confirmed a total of 12,656 cases of COVID-19, of which 330 have died, 10,259 have recovered, and 2,067 have survived.
