May 10 2021, U.S. President Joe Biden approved Virginia’s declaration of disaster due to winter storms. Biden ordered federal aid to help state and local governments restore and repair areas hit by severe winter storms between February 11 and February 13, 2021.

The White House statement said the federal government will fund mitigation measures on an apportionment basis. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) of the Department of Homeland Security has appointed Kevin I. Snyder as the federal coordinator for recovery efforts in the affected areas.
