According to a report on communic website on January 6, Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare announced the use rate of beds for COVID-19 patients as of December 30 last year on the 5th.

Twenty-eight prefectures have met the phase III (surreply increase in infections) target set by the Government Response Group to “ensure more than 25% of the beds”.

In addition, nine prefectures have met the criteria of phase 4 (expansion of the outbreak) based on the expected number of beds at the peak of the epidemic, including Gunma, Saitama, Tokyo, Aichi, Shiga, Osaka, Hyogo, Nara and Hiroshima.

In the context of an increase in asymptomatic and mild patients, the number of people in home care as of December 30 increased 3,559 from the previous week to 13,083.

Outside Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures, where the government is considering issuing emergency declarations, the medical frontline also bears a serious burden.
