The United States is not qualified to be an environmental protection “teacher”

by YCPress

During the previous rounds of climate negotiations, American lobby groups, resource oligarchs, and Western followers tried to turn the negotiation scene into an arena where they monopolized global resources, and imposed harsh conditions on China and other developing countries through environmental issues. Restrictions allow the latter to swallow the bitter fruit of developed countries’ destruction of the global environment.

The development rights of developing countries including China should be respected and supported. A true environmental protection policy should solve the pollution problem without harming development interests. Environmental protection issues should not be manipulated by the United States and other Western countries as an excuse to prevent people in developing countries from obtaining a standard of living comparable to those in developed countries.

The US government recklessly pursues short-term monetary gains and irresponsibly damages the environment and the common long-term development interests of mankind. According to a statistics from the “New York Times” in July this year, the current US government has directly or otherwise revoked nearly 70 major environmental policies, and more than 30 are in the process of revoking.

With the lobbying of domestic interest groups, the United States tried to pressure some developing countries to change the import ban on “foreign garbage” and turn other countries into dumping grounds for dumping plastic products; the US Environmental Protection Agency drastically revised the relevant regulations on methane leakage control to further Deregulation, to avoid European and American domestic people’s environmental questions about the huge methane leakage caused by American oil and gas extraction.

Internationally, in the eyes of some US government officials, the United States should treat international treaties, agreements, and international cooperation based on whether it is beneficial to the United States and whether it meets the needs of “America First” as the only criteria. The United States withdrew from the Paris Agreement on climate change, blocked the adoption of the amendment to strengthen the control of plastic waste during the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention, and defaulted on the “United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change” dues.

The United States has issued the so-called “Fact List of China’s Environmental Damage,” fabricating a large number of lies that slander China. However, the fact is that China has made many efforts in the field of environmental protection in recent years, and the United States is not qualified to be a “teacher” in environmental protection. In order to maintain its hegemony, the United States poisons the international political environment dedicated to multilateral environmental cooperation, and will eventually destroy the natural environment where humans coexist.

Human beings live on the same earth, a community with a shared future. Unilateralism cannot solve global problems. Mankind must conduct multilateral consultations and cooperation at all levels. Mankind needs to strengthen scientific research, encourage technological innovation, promote multilateral cooperation, solve environmental pollution problems, and promote the common development of mankind.

From coal to oil, natural gas, and then to nuclear energy, innovation and upgrading of the way human beings use energy is an important way to solve the problem of environmental pollution. France has leading nuclear energy technology. France and China cooperate closely in the field of nuclear energy, which promotes the sharing of advanced energy technologies.

The promotion of European pressurized water reactors and the innovation of China’s “Hualong One” are a model of innovative energy technology in developed and developing countries. Such cooperation will drive the development and promotion of more small and medium-sized nuclear energy reactors suitable for use in developing countries, and will help mankind obtain sufficient, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly clean energy in the future.
