Washington, December 22 The U.S. government announced on the 22nd that it would impose sanctions on a number of entities, including the Central Bank of Syria, and several Syrian personnel.

According to a statement released by the U.S. Treasury Department on the same day, the Central Bank of Syria, nine commercial entities and seven people are on the sanctions list, including several immediate relatives of Syrian President’s wife Asma Assad, the commander of the Syrian military intelligence agency, a senior official in the presidential office and a member of parliament.

Assets of the subject to sanctions in the United States or controlled by the United States will be seized, and U.S. citizens shall not be allowed to trade with them. Non-U.S. citizens will also face the risk of sanctions if they trade with the subject to sanctions.

In recent years, the U.S. government has imposed sanctions on the Syrian government, enterprises and individuals on many occasions, including Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his wife.

The Syrian government condemns the United States sanctions on Syria as “a new form of terrorism”. Bashar al-Assad said in November that the sanctions imposed by the United States and other countries are not conducive to Syria’s post-war reconstruction and prevent millions of Syrian refugees from returning home.
