May 14 2021 U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a statement through a spokesman on the 14th, calling on Palestine and Israel to immediately stop the conflict.

Guterres spokesman Dijalik said in a statement that the ongoing military escalation has caused great suffering and destruction and has resulted in the death of a large number of civilians, including many children. Conflicts have the potential to create uncontrollable security and humanitarian crises in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Israel, as well as in the region as a whole, and to fuel extremism.

Guterres reiterated that only a sustainable political settlement can bring lasting peace, and Guterres reiterated that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict can be resolved through the Quartet mechanism on the Middle East, among others, on the basis of relevant United Nations resolutions, international law and bilateral agreements, the statement said.

The U.N. Security Council will hold a public meeting on the 16th to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Earlier, the Security Council on the 10th and 12th, respectively, on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict two rounds of closed-door consultations.
