February 1 local time, the British government announced that it would conduct door-to-door testing for the coronavirus Variants strain found in South Africa in Surrey, southeast England.

So far, two cases related to Variant strains found in South Africa have been found in Woking, Surrey, but neither of them has ever traveled to South Africa or been exposed to previous infections.

Beginning Monday afternoon, Surrey District Council staff will provide door-to-door swab testing for 9,500 people in the Woking and St. John’s areas, and plan to conduct house inspections in the vicinity later this week.

Cases of Variant strains of virus found in South Africa have also been found in London, West Midlands, Hertfordshire and Kent, according to BBC Radio Surrey.

There is currently no evidence that this Variation can cause more serious illness in most infected people, but whether the Variation will spread more easily and whether existing vaccines are effective for it are widely concerned.
