Reuters reported on February 19 that on Thursday local time, U.S. Secretary of State Blinken said that the United States was ready to negotiate with Iran on the return of the two countries to Iran nuclear agreement, seeking to restore the agreement abandoned by the United States nearly three years ago.

Blinken expressed this idea in a videoconference with the foreign ministers of Britain, France and Germany, and Iran reacted coldly.

Blinken reiterated the U.S. position that if Iran strictly abides by its obligations, the Biden administration will return to the Iran nuclear agreement.

According to the Quartet statement, Blinken said, “The United States will do the same and is ready to discuss it with Iran.”

A U.S. official also told Reuters that Washington would respond positively to any invitation from the European Union to negotiate Iran and the six Iranian nuclear countries (the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, China and Germany).

The unnamed official said, “If such a meeting is held, we are ready to attend.” Earlier, a senior EU official said he was ready to hold such a meeting between the parties to the agreement.
