Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Greek Prime Minister Mezotakisto exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan, regional issues and bilateral relations by telephone.
In a statement, the press office of the Turkish presidential palace said Erdogan had said during the talks that Afghanistan had entered a critical period and hoped for a “soft” transition.
The new Government should be inclusive and representative, reflecting the diversity of the Afghan people. Erdogan believes the EU should help the Afghan people in Afghanistan and neighboring countries. Otherwise, a new wave of migrants will be inevitable. Erdogan stressed that cooperation in combating illegal immigration should be strengthened on the basis of mutual understanding and respect for the interests of all parties.
Mizotakis also believes that there is a need to strengthen support for Afghanistan’s neighbours in order to solve the migration problem in the near term.
