The Turkish drilling vessel Kanuni sailed to the Black Sea for its first operational mission

May 5, Turkey’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Demez said Turkey’s Kanuni drilling vessel had set sail for the Black Sea to begin its first operational mission. It will drill at the Sakaria gas field in the Black Sea.

The Sakaria gas field is turkey’s largest gas field ever discovered, with officials saying it has 405 billion cubic meters of reserves. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said last year that Turkey would use gas from the Black Sea by 2023.
