According to a report from Kyodo News on the 12th, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga held a telephone conversation with Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft Corporation of the United States.
Gates said that in order to overcome the global pandemic of the new crown virus, “hosting the Tokyo Olympics will be a major positive message to the world.” Yoshihide Suga responded, “This is very important, so it must be held.”
Suga Yoshihide’s statement responded to public doubts to a certain extent. Earlier, Japanese gossip entertainment magazine “Facts Weekly” broke the news that the Japanese government will announce on the 18th of this month that the Tokyo Olympics in July this year will be postponed, and in order to apply for compensation from the International Olympic Committee, Japan may rehost the Olympics in 2032.
According to the “Sports Daily” report, British Olympic champion Matthew Pinsent also tweeted calling for the Tokyo Olympics to be postponed to 2024.
In addition to Suga Yoshihide’s statement, the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee also responded to the hosting of the Tokyo Olympics.
Toshiro Muto, chief executive of the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee, said on the 12th that the news about the cancellation or postponement of the Tokyo Olympics is fake news.
Yoshiro Mori, chairman of the Tokyo Olympic Committee, also delivered a speech on the same day, promising to host the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics as scheduled this summer.
