April 28th, the South American Football Confederation received a batch of Coronavirus vaccine donated by Beijing Kexing Zhongwei Biotechnology Co., Ltd. in Montevideo, Uruguay, to ensure the smooth holding of the Copa America.
Alejandro Dominguez, president of the South American Football Confederation, and Wang Gang, China’s ambassador to Uruguay, arrived at Carrasco International Airport that night to receive the cargo.
The South American Football Confederation is the first football federation in the world to receive donations of Coronavirus vaccines from pharmaceutical groups.
On April 13, the South American Football Confederation announced an agreement with Beijing Kexing Zhongwei Biotechnology Co., Ltd., which will become the official medical and health partner of the 2021 America’s Cup.
“This is the best news for the South American football family,” Alejandro Dominguez, president of the South American Football Confederation, said in a statement. ”
The South American Football Confederation’s statement said the vaccines will be used primarily for men’s and women’s soccer tournaments organized by the South American Soccer Federation, for players from the continent’s major professional football clubs, as well as for coaches and referees, to ensure that the Copa America, the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericant will be held from June to July this year.
The 2021 Copa America will be held in Argentina and Colombia from 13 June to 10 July.
