January 10, the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding on the feasibility study of the China-Myanmar cooperation in the Mandalay-Kyaukpyu railway project in Myanmar was held in Naypyidaw.

Chen Hai, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, Tan Shufu, Embassy Business Counselor, Dan Xinmanang, Minister of Transport and Communications of Myanmar, Vice Minister Jue Miao, Chang Mi Wenkan and others attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Chen Hai said that at the beginning of last year, President Xi Jinping’s historic visit to Myanmar opened a new era of China-Burma relations.

Over the past year, China and Myanmar have actively implemented the results of President Xi Jinping’s visit to Myanmar, made overall plans to promote anti-epidemic and pragmatic cooperation, and made a series of gratifying progress.

In terms of railways, on the basis of completing the feasibility study, the two sides carried out in-depth discussions on technical solutions and financing methods.

The Mandler-Jiao Piao section completed the feasibility study for consultation, which was supported by various departments of the Myanmar government and the provinces along the railway.

A few days ago, we also witnessed the arrival delivery of 28 train cars in Myanmar using China’s interest-free loan.

The cooperation between the two sides in the railway field to overcome the impact of the epidemic and continue to move forward. The results are not easy to come by, which is a vivid reflection of the spirit of the China-Myanmar community of destiny.

2021 is the beginning of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, and Myanmar will also start a five-year term of a new government.

Standing at a new starting point in history, China will accelerate the construction of a new development pattern of double cycle and share development dividends with countries around the world, especially neighboring countries.

As the artery of the country, railways will promote Myanmar’s development. The railway from Dali to Ruili section of Yunnan Province in China is expected to be completed and opened to traffic by the end of 2023, directly to the China-Myanmar border.

The China-Myanmar railway connection and the railway construction in Myanmar will make Myanmar more closely connected with the huge market with a population of 1.4 billion and the vast Eurasian continent, promote Myanmar’s economic development and people’s livelihood improvement, and help Myanmar’s domestic reconciliation and peace process.

It is hoped that the two sides will work together to promote the progress of relevant railway construction on the basis of the feasibility study, so that the two countries, especially the people of Myanmar, can benefit early and more, and continue to write a new chapter of friendship between China and Myanmar in the new era.

Minister Dan Xinman said that the friendship between China and Myanmar has lasted for a long time and pragmatic cooperation is becoming closer and closer.

During President Xi Jinping’s visit to Myanmar, the two sides reached a lot of consensus on cooperation in the field of transportation.

China-Myanmar railway cooperation, including the Mandalay-Jiaopiao Piao section of the railway, is an important project for the two countries to jointly build the Belt and Road Initiative and the Economic Corridor, which Myanmar attaches great importance to.

Railway is the key infrastructure of national development, which is of great significance for facilitating the exchange of people and the transportation of goods and promoting economic development.

Thank you for your long-term support and help to Myanmar’s peaceful development and railway cause.

I believe that railway cooperation will benefit the two peoples, and the friendship between China and Myanmar compatriots will become deeper and deeper in cooperation.

In the presence of Ambassador Chen Hai and Minister Dan Xinmang, Wang Guoliang, the chief representative of Myanmar of the Second Hospital of China Railway, and Ang Wing, Director of the Technical Management Department of the Railway Bureau of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Myanmar, signed a memorandum of understanding on the feasibility study of the Mandalay-Jiao Pyu railway project.

During President Xi Jinping’s visit to Myanmar in January 2020, the Second People’s Court of China Railway submitted a feasibility study report of the Mujie-Mandler section of the railway to the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Myanmar.

This time, the two sides will continue to carry out a feasibility study on the Mandalay-Jiaobu section.
