Aug. 14  Wall Street analysts predict that by the end of this year (2021), a new outbreak of coronavirus could kill at least 115,000 more Americans, given the rapid spread of the new coronavirus Delta strain, U.S. media reported.

RBC Capital Markets in Canada expects 115,000 new deaths from coronavirus in the U.S. this year, CBS News reported Wednesday, based on projections of rising hospitalizations in the U.S., local virus transmission rates and vaccination rates. The report also says that number could rise if emergency rooms and intensive care units in U.S. hospitals become overwhelmed by too many patients in the coming weeks.

Americans are tested for coronavirus

U.S. media pointed out that the Delta strain has become the main strain in this year’s coronavirus outbreak, but also the main cause of hospitalization and deaths. In recent weeks, U.S. public health officials have frequently referred to the mutated strain because it spreads faster and replicates faster than other strains. According to Worldometer’s real-time statistics, as of about 6:30 p.m. Beijing time on August 14, the United States had confirmed more than 37.32 million new cases of coronavirus and more than 637,000 deaths.
