On the same day, EU leaders held a special summit via video to discuss together the strategies to deal with coronavirus pandemic. Von der Lein made the above statement at a press conference held after the meeting.

Von der Lein said that the European Commission has allocated 220 million euros to fund the cross-border transfer of coronavirus patients within the EU, thereby reducing the medical pressure on the member states most affected by the pandemic.

“Leaders of EU member states agreed that virus detection and case tracking are the two key tasks for the current pandemic prevention and control. At the same time, all countries also pledged to further strengthen data sharing, especially the timely sharing of accurate pandemic information with the European Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Data,” Von der Lein said.

Von der Lein also revealed that EU leaders have now reached a consensus that once a vaccine is available, the 27 EU member states will obtain the vaccine at the same time and under the same conditions. The specific vaccine supply of each country will be determined according to its population.
