On the morning of the 11th May 2021, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation issued a statement condemning Israel’s violation of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City, known as the Temple Mount, and demanding that Israel immediately cease its provocative actions.
In a statement, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation said Israel’s “barbaric attacks” on Muslims inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque and restrictions on their freedom had hurt the feelings of Muslims around the world and constituted a serious violation of relevant international law.
The statement called on the international community to exert pressure on Israel and intervene urgently in its actions, while demanding that Israel be held accountable for the escalation and stop its actions affecting regional security and stability.
Since entering Ramadan this year, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has continued, with frequent clashes in the past week. On the evening of 7 May local time, palestinians clashed with Israeli police on the Temple Mount, injuring at least 200 people.
According to the previous announcement, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will hold an emergency meeting later on the 11th to discuss the recent Israeli-Palestinian situation.
