The Netherlands may impose the first national curfew since World War II

The Dutch government will begin Wednesday to impose the first national curfew since World War II on the basis of the already extensive blockade to limit the spread of mutant coronavirus in the Netherlands, according to the Dutch broadcaster RTL on January 20.

The RTL quoted government sources as saying that beginning Friday night, the curfew only allows people with urgent needs to leave their homes between 8:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m.

Schools and non-essential stores have closed since mid-December, following the closure of bars and restaurants two months ago.

Dutch Prime Minister Rütte said last week that the blockade will last until at least February 9.

The first night curfew imposed on the Dutch since the German occupiers in World War II was controversial, and political parties have expressed that they would never support it.
