December 29, Ambassador Chen Hai met with Myanmar’s Minister of Interior Sotu and Minister of International Cooperation, Jueding, respectively by video to coordinate and promote the joint prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic on the China-Burma border.
Chen Hai reported on the work made in China, especially Yunnan Province, to prevent and control the rebound and import of the epidemic in autumn and winter.
Chen Hai said that the China-Myanmar border is long, the environment is complex, the people and goods are exchanged, and the epidemic control is difficult. Recently, the global epidemic rebounded, and China and Myanmar are facing serious challenges in epidemic prevention and control.
The joint prevention and control mechanism of China and Myanmar has carried out a lot of work, but there are still weak links in the border area.
It is necessary for the two sides to further strengthen joint prevention and control cooperation to prevent the cross-border spread of the epidemic and safeguard the health and well-being of the people of the two countries.
It is hoped that the two sides will strengthen the notification of epidemic information, achieve information sharing, and prevent people involved in the epidemic from losing control due to the lag of information.
Second, strengthen the control of mobile personnel, effectively reduce the flow of people to the China-Myanmar border areas with severe epidemic, and effectively prevent the cross-regional spread of the epidemic.
Third, strengthen joint border control, continue to maintain the situation of strict border control, timely detect and crack down on illegal cross-border activities, and prevent the cross-border spread of the epidemic through illegal entry and exit channels.
Myanmar said that the Myanmar government attaches great importance to the joint prevention and control of the Myanmar-China epidemic, and is taking further measures to prevent the spread of the Myanmar epidemic to the China-Myanmar border area.
Myanmar will work together with China to give full play to the role of the joint prevention and control mechanism of the border epidemic, coordinate the local government of the border to strengthen the connection with Yunnan Province, strengthen the sharing of epidemic information and border control, jointly crack down on illegal entry and exit activities, and make every effort to minimize the risk of the spread of the epidemic.
The two sides also communicated on strengthening cooperation between China and Myanmar on COVID-19 vaccine.
