Nitish Kumar, chief minister of The State of Bihar, announced on May 13th, local time, that the Bihar government had decided to extend the current blockade for 10 days until May 25th, in view of the current situation.

Nitish Kumar said the positive effects of the current blockade measures on curbing the spread of the pandemic were obvious, so the state government decided to extend the blockade through consultation. He also said the government is strengthening the local medical infrastructure, including increasing the number of beds and other types of equipment to deal with the current situation.

The state of Bihar declared a curfew at the end of April, followed by a blockade on 4 May from 5 to 15 May. During the blockade, people are not allowed to go out in non-urgent matters, only shops selling necessities and other places open, government offices only maintain 25% of the staff on site, schools, religious places, shopping malls, swimming pools, etc. will be closed.

Statistics show that as of the early morning of May 13, Bihar has added 9,863 new confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the past 24 hours, with a cumulative total of more than 620,000 confirmed cases and 99,623 confirmed cases.
