December 9th local time, CNN reported that Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves planned to hold a holiday party in the near future after issuing an executive order restricting parties due to the aggravation of the coronavirus epidemic in Mississippi.

In an interview, state Rep. Chris Bell said he had received an invitation from the governor, but refused to participate because the epidemic was still out of control.

Mississippi has continued to see a surge in COVID-19 cases, with at least 167,926 cases and 4,017 deaths recorded so far, according to the Mississippi Department of Health.

Governor’s spokesman Bailey Martin did not specifically respond to the holiday invitation, but Martin said in a statement that any activities held by the governor and his wife were carried out safely in accordance with the governor’s executive order.

The statement said that many indoor events, including daughter’s birthday parties, were cancelled due to the coronavirus epidemic, and the uncancelled activities were all on a scale of less than 10 people.
